Community helps Sophomores and Juniors experience their future finance

Clearwater High School students got the chance to participate in an interactive finance exercise from Cowley County’s Future Finance program. The activity demonstrates how student performance in school today will impact future lifestyles.

Prior to the event students complete a survey about how they see their lives ten years from now including career, lifestyle, married or single, children, etc. At the event they are given a life situation based on their answers. They visit booths -- operated by local business leaders -- to purchase goods and services.

Mrs. Weber and Mrs. Thompson, CTE coordinators, orchestrated the event. Thompson said, “We appreciate the Clearwater Chamber and businesses lending their professional expertise in running the event. They see the value in helping students understand some of the realities of preparing for the future.”

Future finance is more than just budgeting. It also helps students learn to determine spending priorities and generates discussions about what matters most.
